If you’ve noticed your computer and your phone have two different connectors, then you printer uses another connection maybe even too your camera has its own connection. These days are slowly nearing an end as USB type C wants to become king.
Type C is a connector, it is a little larger than your normal Android connector and both ends are the same. Unlike normal USB it can be plugged in either way around.

Type C opens the door to more of everything

The full breakdown on the pins inside a Type C cable, notice the symmetry between the top and bottom, so it does not matter what way around it is plugged.

Peripherals

It is important to remember Type C is just a connector, the actual protocols depend on the device and the backward compatible nature of USB 3.0 means USB 2 is still supported enabling standard USB devices with an adapter to integrate into the type C system.

What it means for the industry

USB brought universal data connection to almost every device and meant you only really need a few cables, the next shift simplifies it further. Next year we expect Type C to become more common in mobile devices, in the PC world however standard USB is also likely to stick around for a while.

When computers hit mass adoption we will see designs with only type C connector plugs, no more unique power, video , simple and easy.
